Thirteen People

by

Peter Andrew Gunnis

13 Doors, Twelve people
All can be seen
Twelve people going right,
Going left
This sight is thrilling yet obscene

These doors are numbered
As well as letters on the handles
Everywhere else is darkness
My mind, heart, life,
Someone yells

1 Mirror, 12 people and me
No eyes and yet there is sight
Whose face in the reflection?
A halo of brilliant white

12 Doors open 12 Doors close
12 People here 12 People gone
1 Door
1 Reflection
Everyone has to go it alone

I now see with open eyes
Only 3 things are visible in the gloom
A reflection,
A door, A halo
Surely you wouldn’t go
To your own doom

Recognition is coming back to me
The face the hair the lost expression
It is I that I see
Don’t force me to go on this mission

Some thing doesn’t feel right
I am moving yet it is still there
How can this happen,
Why can this be
Door of death,
Life in the mirror

Life is never easy, or everyone would do it
A weird saying if ever there was one
How can I ignore
The door
How can I handle
The reflection

A life without fear is a waste
7 People love without regret
Disease, germs, Apocalypse is soon
Seven is odd numbering
I must admit

I look through the mirror
At the soul hiding on the other side
That halo should be for joy
I see it is the tie that binds

We all need the darkness
For without its’ presence
You wouldn’t know what is the light
Absence of dark, life is ominous

So don’t run from all ye don’t know
Tum around,have a look
Be not afraid of the cloying presence
There are many hours on this clock

For some people insanity is a birth right
For us it is a right of passage
This ring slips
Clangs to the floor
To you I give this homage
